What Satellite TV does for us today is quite remarkable and is changing the way we interact and watch television. Image these satellite dishes some 24,000 plus miles above the earth transmitting hundreds of channels to our

There are actually two types of Satellite TV systems to choose from:

Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) - these are the small 18 to 24 inch dishes and are the most popular systems. There are two main networks available and you must buy programming from that network.
(DirecTV and Dish Network). Can get up to 500 channels with DVD quality picture and CD quality sound. You can install the hardware yourself in most cases and any upgrades needed are transmitted directly to your receiver from the satellite.
- C-Band Systems - they carry the larger 6 to 12-foot satellite dishes, which are becoming obsolete. They are being replaced by the smaller digital DBS dishes, which are less expensive. They transmit up to 200 channels from around the world and can offer the same program at different times. The system requires professional installation and maintenance and must meet homeowners zoning requirements. If you have the room, C-Band offers the most variety and least expensive programming.
System prices range from place to place so you must shop around for the best price. It is probably best to choose the type of programming you want before choosing a system. The programming choices for Satellite
TV can be a difficult decision. You can choose a package with the programs that suit you, then buy the hardware that comes with it, or, choose the hardware brand you want and see what channels come with it. Do you need more news and documentaries, or more sports and movies?
