Visa Buxx is an ingenious little card that is designed for teenagers age 13 and up. The purpose of the card is to introduce budgeting and practical money skills for young people. The Visa Buxx is not a credit card even though it carries the Visa label and can be used wherever Visa is accepted.
The way it works is that a parent will load a determined amount on the card. When purchases are made, the balance is reduced and the card must be reloaded when the balance is zero. Purchases cannot exceed the amount preset on the card. There is no credit attached to the card. The parents and student can monitor the activity of the account at any time by logging on to the Visa Buss website and going to account summary.
The name of the student is embossed on the card and if parents want cards for 2 or more teens, they will each have a separate account. Since the teens name is on the card, it cannot be used by anyone else. Parents are able to monitor accounts and add money to the accounts any time online or by phone. There is no limit to the amount that can be placed on a card. Parents also have the ability to suspend or close an account at any time. The student can use the card for any purchase not exceeding the account balance or withdraw cash but they cannot add money to the account or order a card themselves. The parent has full control over the card, as they will only put it the amount the teen needs to spend.

The Visa Buxx card was developed by Visa to help young people learn about financial responsibility and they provide much printed material about the appropriate use of the cards. To check the account balance, they can log on to the website or use the purchase register to write down all transactions. Visa Buxx can be used at any ATM for cash withdrawals. The Visa Buxx is a great starter tool for teens to use and it gives parents peace of mind.
