Your
Internet Genius Is In the Details
What
you do not know about Internet Marketing could destroy your
business. Here's why...
The genius is in the details, the tested, proven techniques
for search engines, affiliate programs, and email marketing.
Now look around the Internet and you see perfectly intelligent
people making glaring mistakes. Take one look at a Web page
and you will know whether it will convert.
Most companies throw up an idea and hope for the best. This is
not limited to the affiliate space at all.
What is amazing is that people are missing the basics, not the
advanced tips and techniques. This is more than a trend, it is
the core weakness of most Dot Com companies.
Fact is, if you don't do the basics of Internet marketing, you
will not succeed. I want to share a classic from my archives,
directed at avoiding the top mistakes affiliates make.
When you look at most Web Sites, they too make these mistakes.
It is all a matter of focusing your customer on the best
opportunity to buy now.
Let's get started....
Step #1: Avoid the top 10 mistakes most affiliates make.
I'm going to go through a checklist of mistakes affiliates
consistently make. I want you to be aware of them when you
start building your network, so you don't make these mistakes.
#1. Don't create an Internet flea market. Do not create a
website with 20 banner ads or add a drop down menu with 50
products to choose from. All you're doing is saying to people,
here are a lot of choices, so choose. Guess what? They
choose to leave. Again and again, it doesn't work. The
Internet mall approach is not as effective as focusing on 3 to
4 products and selling them very well.
Let's face it, you've got 50 products, you've got 50 separate
messages. No one is that brilliant. You'll wear yourself out,
you'll pay more money for marketing. Don't do the flea market.
#2. Focus on interested eyes, not strangers. Selling to
strangers is tough. Develop your opt-in email list &
develop familiarity. People who know you, who have bought from
you once are much more likely to buy from you again. The real
key is to create the first buying decision. So be wary of only
marketing to strangers; develop long term customers.
#3. Advertise within the context of your site. Weave the
affiliate program offer into a recommendation and endorsement:
an informative article where you talk about how good the
product is with a link to the sale, leading to an informed
purchase decision.
Another technique is to rotate affiliate programs according to
season. If you're selling flowers, why sell flowers all
year long? People don't buy flowers in the middle of
August unless there is a birthday. They buy them on
Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, around Christmas, and other
holidays.
Rotate programs according to how much you earn and the seasons
they pull the best. Set reasonable goals, things you can
achieve, and look at them month by month. Failure to measure
and failure to set your goals simply means that you will never
reach them. Make sure you set your goals.
#4. Not advertising is another mistake people make. With free
affiliate programs, free Web Sites, free products, they think
advertising is free too. The Internet is not a free for all
like it used to be. You don't want to pay too much, but you
want to have a budget for advertising just like you have to
have a budget for training.
#5. Another mistake is to create mediocrity when you could be
copying genius. Look for successful affiliate stories.
Find out what they are doing. For example, go to a site like
iGive.com, notice how they take an email before they lead you
to buy an affiliate product. This is brilliant because they
develop trust, credibility, and familiarity with their
customers. They establish a positive working relationship with
their customers.
In short, your time is important so use your energy wisely and
effectively. Notice that these mistakes involve trying to
communicate with strangers, ineffective advertising, too many
products, and not doing your own research for affiliate
programs.
Focus on quality. Focus on a few programs. Focus on
relationship building and those goals that are reachable. Keep
it simple, stay organized and focus on building your network
with 3 or 4 associate programs that you can sell very well.
Those who focus and test, win. Those who get scattered and try
every program under the sun, hoping one works, lose. It
is simple human behavior. The most compelling products are
delivered to an audience who are easily reachable and
interested in listening to what you have to offer.
If you do these steps, it is likely you will find increased
success with your affiliate programs.
Peace,
Declan
