Pagoo
to Demonstrate Voice over the Internet at Fall VON
Pagoo™,
a leading provider of voice over the Internet services, today
announced that it is demonstrating voice-over-broadband (VoB) services
via residential gateways at Fall Von 2000, Sept. 11-14 at the Cobb
Galleria in Atlanta. The company also announced its plans to make this
service available for trial in the US and Europe in Q4 2000. Pagoo's
services will enable DSL providers, CLECs, Cable Operators, Internet
Service Providers (ISPs) and broadband resellers to deploy a wide range
of private-labeled Internet phone services to end consumers in a matter
of weeks. With its VoB solution, Pagoo customers can offer consumers the
ability to make and receive calls over the Internet all from regular
phones and with sound quality comparable to the Public Switched
Telephone Network (PSTN).
With
its residential gateway voice-over-broadband service, Pagoo will enable
service providers to offer true phone service over broadband networks. A
residential gateway deployed at the customer premise handles the
compression and decompression of analog phone signals into IP data
signals. Typically the size of a small answering machine, the gateways
contain ports where an ethernet line and several telephone lines can be
plugged. At VON, Pagoo will demonstrate the ability to use regular
telephones plugged into a residential gateway to place and receive phone
calls over IP in addition to using advanced features including Follow Me
call forwarding and web-based real-time account set-up and management.
In addition to freeing users from making and receiving IP-based calls
from the PC, residential gateways improve the quality of the IP sound,
to a level comparable to the traditional PSTN.

Pagoo
will enter into trials of its VoB solution with select service providers
in the coming weeks. Pagoo will provide its service in an ASP or
licensing model. Under the ASP model, Pagoo hosts all components of the
system including the application, VoIP network, call signaling and
service operations. With Pagoo's licensed solutions, the company
provides and manages the software application and the customer typically
hosts parts of the solution, such as the VoIP network, billing, support
and other localized activities.
"Pagoo's
voice-over-broadband solution will enable service providers to
significantly increase their revenue per customer, build customer
loyalty and differentiate themselves from the competition by offering
the most comprehensive set of basic and advanced IP-based phone services
to consumers," said Sylvain Dufour, CTO and co-founder of Pagoo
"We've created our technology and services to fit the way people
want to live their lives, rather than the other way around. This
solution will enable consumers to use IP voice services without doing
anything different than they do today-they just pick up the phone and
receive the same high quality sound."
This
announcement comes less than a month after Pagoo announced its expanded
line of comprehensive VoIP solutions and its first customer, Tiscali, a
leading ISP and telecommunications company. Pagoo provides Tiscali with
a comprehensive Voice- over-IP solution, enabling it to deploy a wide
range of private-labeled Internet phone services to its more than two
million customers.
"The
Customer Premise Equipment model propels IP phone calling from a novelty
to a real alternative to traditional phone service," said Mark
Winther, Group Vice President, Worldwide Telecommunications at IDC.
"This latest service offering by Pagoo will meet the growing demand
of carriers and broadband providers to offer value-added voice solutions
over IP to their customers."
