Lycos
Network and ThinkLink announce a comprehensive free voice mail real-time
communications solution
Lycos,
Inc., the Internet's leading multi-brand network, and ThinkLink,
the premier free voice mail application service provider offering
Internet integrated messaging and real-time communications services,
today announced their alliance and the launch of Lycos Communications, a
co-branded, integrated messaging solution for the nearly 33 million
unique monthly visitors to the Lycos Network.
"Sophistication
and complexity of communication technology means that people have more
ways than ever to get in touch with one another,'' said Don Zereski,
vice president, Lycos communities and communications. "But the result
of this is that people are barraged with messages. We're pleased that
working with ThinkLink, we'll be able to offer our membership an
easy-to-use message management tool. This powerful suite of
communication tools will ultimately enable users to manage all messaging
-- from home and work -- from a single point.''

ThinkLink's
service allows users to receive, send and manage multiple message types
through centralized entry points. In this joint offering, Lycos
continues to provide its members with email services, while ThinkLink
supplies a suite of real-time communications and messaging
functionality. This alliance is part of a multi-million dollar,
multi-year, revenue-sharing agreement between the two companies.
Debuting
today are Lycos Communications' Premium Free Voicemail and Calling
Services. Via their own personal free local or 800 number, users can
receive and retrieve messages and, for only five cents a minute, can
make outbound calls. Call forwarding, paging and message notification
capabilities round out the Premium Service. Fax capability and the
ability for members to send and receive voice and email from wireless
devices, like PDAs and cellular phones, will be available soon.
Lycos
Communications is positioned to take advantage of the rapid growth in
integrated messaging and real-time communications. Analysts expect that
over the next several years, the number of messaging devices will
increase, as will the numbers and types of messages people send and
receive. Yankee Group research also indicates that more than 28% of all
U.S. homes now get email. By 2003, this number will nearly triple.
Today, Americans send and receive more than one billion voice messages
every day.
"ThinkLink
is excited to join with Lycos by providing ThinkLink's premier
integrated messaging and real-time communications services to Lycos
users,'' commented David Ward, ThinkLink president and CEO. ``We believe
that the Lycos-ThinkLink joint offering will increase the stickiness of
Lycos' existing network, creating a situation where consumers will
continually revisit the site to check messages and stay in touch.
ThinkLink is proud to join Lycos in simplifying the way people
communicate.''
With
this announcement, MailCity becomes Lycos Communications. All new users
to the service will receive email addresses under the Lycos.com domain.
